My Biography

I was born in Rome in 1972 from 2 medical parents, Mother Gynecologist, Father General Surgeon and Proctologist. In 1998 I graduated with full marks in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics at La Sapienza University of Rome with the experimental thesis on “The use of non-resorbable membranes in bone regeneration”.

Member of the Order of Dentists n. 3779.

From there my passion for Oral Surgery, Implantology, Periodontology and Bone Regeneration was born.

This desire to learn leads me to New York, where I moved in 1999 to follow my teacher, Prof. Dennis Tarnow in the Department of Implantology and Periodontology of New York University.

I stayed in New York for 5 years, during which I completed 3 Masters: the first is annual, in Comprehensive Dentistry directed by Prof. Bivona; the second is biennial, in Implantology and Periodontics, directed by Prof. Dennis Tarnow; the third is annual, in Esthetic Dentistry, directed by Prof. Steven Chu.

After my studies, I stayed in New York for another two years as Assistant Professor in the Department of Implantology, helping Dennis with the new students.

These 5 years in New York were the most important of my life, I had the honor of working from 1999 to 2004 with the most influential people in my field, Stuart Froum, Sang Choon Cho, Craig Misch, Edwin Rosenberg, Dominic Galasso, Kate Salius, and many others. It started at 8.00 and often finished after 22.00. Lessons, surgeries, prosthetics, laboratory, library, with a stressful work pace, but in an extremely stimulating environment. There I learned to work and manage the patient, physically and emotionally.

In 2004 I returned to Rome and opened the Fisio Europa Multi-specialty Center; at the same time I began a teaching period at the Department of Periodontology I directed by Prof. Renato Celletti at the “Gabriele D’Annunzio” University of Chieti (Pescara). In the same University in 2008 I completed my three-year research doctorate, with a thesis on “Peri-implant bone resorption on implants with platform switching”, with a final exam conducted by Prof. Adriano Piattelli.

In 2006 I took part in the annual course of Periodontology of Prof. Stefano Parma Benfenati in Ferrara and in 2007 I followed the annual course of prostheses of Prof. Mauro Fradeani in Pesaro, from 2010 I officially joined the teaching staff of New York University for the Department of Implantology where I go three times a year, for ten days, to give lessons and coordinate the surgical interventions of the students of the Master. In 2014 in New York, I took the exam for the prestigious title of Diplomate ICOI (International Congress Oral Implantologist), there are only 9 in Italy. In 2016 I followed the six-month course of vertical bone regeneration of my dear friend Marco Ronda in Genova. In 2018 I certified in placing the Rex Implants with the piezosurgical technique.

I have been making Implantology, Prosthetics and Dental Aesthetics my passion for more than 20 years, I have published scientific articles in national and international journals, I have written the chapter of an oral surgery book on piezoelectric surgery, I am a member of the I.A.O. (Italian Academy of Osseointegration), member of S.I.D.P. (Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology), of the E.A.O. (European Association for Osseointegration), of the A.O. (Academy Osteointegration). I am a founding member of the New York University Department of Implant Dentistry Alumni Association, an active member and founder of the IPA (International Piezosurgery Academy).

I am a clinician who has been working for 20 years, 10 hours a day, and since 1999 I have placed about 11,000 implants, performed hundreds of maxillary sinus lifts, treating thousands of patients with success rates like those reported in scientific literature.

The techniques I like most to perform in the field of implantology are immediate loading, post-extraction regeneration, split crest, large and small sinus lift, complex extractions, solving maxillary and mandibular bone deficits and cases of complex rehabilitation of two arches. Lately I have become passionate about gingival plastic surgery, to recover the imperfections deriving from implant misplacement, periodontitis, or gingival recessions.

I am opinion leader for the company Biomax – Biomet 3i, an American implant house that I have been using for more than 20 years and which has an above average long-term success rate and a very low percentage of peri-implantitis, due to the hybrid surface, acidified and etched, an approach that today are fortunately also embracing other implant companies.

I enjoy working with the latest technologies, those that have shocked dentistry in recent years. I consider myself lucky to have learned this discipline in “Analog”, but today digital has revolutionized our world and I am proud to have acquired all the technological “gadgets” that allow you a safer diagnosis and a faster and more predictable treatment. Think that there is a software that analyze the patient’s photos, joining them to the Dentalscan, combining them with the impressions acquired with the intra-oral 3D scanner and the plates with the phosphors. Surgery today can be planned completely on the computer, and, in the most difficult cases, we obtain a stereolithographic copy of the patient’s bones using the 3D printer, to be able to shape the titanium membranes on a pre-surgical model, shortening the time of operation and increasing its predictability.

My philosophy is to treat my patients as I would like to be treated: with the utmost respect for punctuality, for financial possibilities and for everyone’s fears. Taking advantage of the most modern technologies, the highest medical knowledge and putting into practice the concept of surgical mini-invasiveness, I try to leave the patient the memory of an efficient, fast, honest, and painless treatment, performed at the state of the art, in a clean, cheerful, welcoming, and elegant environment.

I will personally welcome you to my Center located in Rome EUR, to make your first visit with the radiographic examinations that I deem necessary, from the simple phosphor plate, to the orthopanoramic or CT scan (which we have on site), and I will develop a treatment plan customized to your needs, expectations, times, and costs.

As for my private life, I am happily married and the father of three wonderful little guys.

My passions are art, cooking, classical culture, and sport. I snowboard, I play tennis, I am a passionate sailor and a lover of all marine sports from diving to surfing. I run at the New York City Marathon every year and, within Fisio Europa, I created the Runner Clinic in the physiotherapy department to assist the runner’s minor traumas.

That’s all for now

Giuseppe
